About Me

My Background

My name is Juliane, also known as Roadrunner. I am a 2022 Appalachian Trail Thru Hiker and a 2024 Pacific Crest Trail Thru Hiker. I know how daunting a Thru hike can seem at first. So much info to sort through, not knowing how everything works. That’s why I decided to blend my love for hiking with my love for helping. For those that are inspired to Thru hike but are weary about the logistics, I offer online consultations or guided shakedown hikes that prepare one for a Thru hike of the Appalachian trail. I will help you with everything involved, explain things in detail and by the end of our collaboration you will either know whether this is something for you or not, and if it is, you will be better prepared for your future life changing experience.

Having just completed a 5-day shakedown hike with Roadrunner, I feel much more ready for what my planned, upcoming NOBO through-hike of the Appalachain Trail is actually going to involve. I've had some short Boy Scout-type camping events and I've watched a lot of Applachian Trail hikers on YouTube, but the experience with Roadrunner brought a real-world, real-time focus on the essential elements that will be involved: pack weight, exertion, food and water management, and camp set up and tear down.

Right away, Roadrunner pointed out to me the enormous potential for pack weight reduction and subsequent much reduced exertion level. We made a few initial adjustments and shed more weight every day, resulting in a dramatic improvement in the enjoyability of the hike. Roadrunner's gentle, wise guidance continued as we managed daily distances and camp set up and tear down.

We remained flexible to respond to weather, opting to wait out a period of rain rather than hike in it, get soaked, and then have to endure a 37° overnight low. We did endure it, but it was only mildly uncomfortable instead of positively dangerous. Roadrunner has seen and done it all on Trail, and so her expertise was invaluable as we evaluated my attitude toward my upcoming through hike and the actual cycle of set up, overnight, tear down, pack up, and pressing on. In every phase of on-trail life, Roadrunner's advice and guidance was worth its weight in gold.
